01 / ABOUT US
A simple belief that
keeps turning pages.
The Itsy Bitsy Book Project began with a simple belief: every child deserves access to a story of their own. What started as a single idea is growing into a community-driven mission.
From one idea to
a growing community.

Books have the power to transport us into new worlds, spark our imagination, help us learn, and give us a moment to escape when life feels difficult.
What started as a simple idea is growing into a community-driven project dedicated to collecting and delivering books directly to children and families in need.
Small books can spark big change.

MEET THE FOUNDER
Maya Sheikh — reader,
high schooler, community builder.
Hello! My name is Maya Sheikh, and I am a high school student. I founded the Itsy Bitsy Book Project to help others enjoy the gift of reading. Ever since I was little, reading has been a core part of my life. Through this project, I hope to reach many people to make a measurable impact in the community.
I believe that every child deserves to experience the joy of reading, no matter the circumstances. Thank you for being a part of this journey and helping make stories accessible to all.
“Let’s keep turning pages together.”— Maya Sheikh, Founder
OUR WHY / WHY BOOKS MATTER
A book in a child’s hands
is more than a book.
Books can do more than tell stories. They spark imagination, encourage learning, provide comfort, and open the door to new possibilities. But not every child has the same access to books.

of students reported having
10 or fewer books at home.
According to the OECD, the percentage of students with 10 or fewer books at home increased from 19% in 2015 to 26% in 2022 across 59 countries and economies with comparable data. The OECD also found that access to books at home is associated with students’ educational outcomes.

We believe access to books shouldn’t
depend on a family’s circumstances.
That’s why the Itsy Bitsy Book Project brings communities together to collect and deliver books directly to children and families in need. Through book drives and simple acts of giving, we can help make sure more children have the opportunity to experience the magic of reading.
